Beyond the CV: Crafting a Dutch-Style Application That Actually Gets You Hired

If you’re applying for production, logistics, or technical roles in the Netherlands, forget the corporate "buzzwords." Dutch recruiters in the temporary employment sector don't have time for fluff. They are looking for three things: Can you do the work? Are you reliable? And can you start now?

At Jobroad, we see hundreds of applications every week. The ones that stand out aren't the ones with the fanciest design—they’re the ones that give us the hard facts we need to place you in a role immediately.

The "Real-Talk" CV: Facts Over Fluff

In the Dutch logistics and production sectors, your value is defined by your practical skills and your ability to hit the ground running. A common mistake is focusing on vague descriptions instead of the specific machines and systems you can operate. If you’ve worked in a warehouse, we need to know if you have an EPT certificate, experience with voice-picking, or a reach truck license.

The Blue-Collar CV Non-Negotiables

Before you send your application, check if these things are crystal clear. If they aren't, your CV is likely going to the bottom of the pile.

  1. Certifications & Licenses: This is the #1 thing recruiters look for. Do you have a Forklift (Heftruck), Reach Truck, or EPT certificate? Is it valid in the EU? List these at the very top.

  2. Specific Experience: Don't just say "Warehouse Worker." Say "Order picker using voice-picking system" or "Production line operator in food industry." The more specific the environment, the better.

  3. No Gaps: Dutch recruiters are pragmatic, but they hate unexplained silence. If you took six months off to travel, care for family, or even just to take a break—say it. An honest, one-line explanation for a gap is always better than leaving a blank space that makes a recruiter wonder if you were out of the workforce for the wrong reasons.

  4. Availability & Location: Are you already in the Netherlands? Do you have your own transport (car/bike)? Can you work shifts (morning/afternoon/night)?

  5. Contact Details: It sounds simple, but ensure your phone number (with country code) and email are correct. If we can't reach you in one click, we move to the next candidate.

"Doe Maar Normaal"

There is a famous Dutch saying: "Doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg" (Just act normal, that's crazy enough). This cultural philosophy is the backbone of the Dutch recruitment process. In your application, this means avoiding "over-selling" or using exaggerated language.

Professionalism in the Netherlands is about competence and reliability, not ego. Be confident in your skills, but remain grounded. A clean, honest list of your actual work history and certifications is far more impressive to a Dutch recruiter than a CV filled with generic "soft skills" like "highly motivated" or "team player."

The CV Checklist

Use this checklist to ensure your CV matches the "no-nonsense" vibe of the Dutch market:

Section What to Include What to Avoid
Personal Info Name, Location, Driving License (B/C/CE), BSN (if you have it). Irrelevant hobbies or overly personal details.
Work History Company name, Dates, and 3-4 bullet points of tasks. Long paragraphs or vague "responsibilities."
Skills Physical stamina, experience with specific tools/scanners. Generic "soft skills" that don't prove competence.
Languages English, Polish, Dutch, etc. (Be honest about your level). Claiming "fluent" if you can't pass a basic interview.

We Do This Every Day

At Jobroad, we don't just wait for the "perfect" CV to arrive. We know that many great workers are better at doing the job than writing about it.

Assisting our candidates in crafting a job-landing CV is what we do routinely. If you have the experience and the drive, but your CV isn't opening doors, reach out to us. We’ll help you strip away the fluff and highlight the real skills that Dutch employers are desperate for right now.
